See lessIt had enough stiffness so it doesn’t easily bend with more aggressive moves, a problem I have with some disposable instruments, especially those with smaller gauges. The visibility of the instrument is good, the reflections against the light pipe were minimized. The gripping action against the membranes were precise and solid, so I was able to elevate the membranes easily and able to stop once I know that neofibrovascular bleeding might occur. A safe and more extensive membrane peeling was done through this instrument. I like the textured finish of the titanium handle and its round shape that fits my fingers ergonomically and prevents slippage against my surgical gloves. Offhand, I would say that it is a very reliable and versatile instrument and I would recommend it to all vitreoretinal surgeons.

I simply groove the nucleus to a depth just above the posterior capsule and using the instrument ensures that I split the nucleus evenly and cleanly. It didn’t fail in the numerous tries I have done it. I then rotate the cataract 90 degrees for a second split. I no longer need to use a second incision or instrument to chop as this works well already even without a phaco chopper. The implication is that I can lessen the theoretical surgically induced astigmatism by marking do without another incision.

The flap can be moved with sufficient force and easily
be lifted to facilitate the laser ablation. In instances where the flap is sticky, I
can use the forcep to lift the part of the flap that is mobile and with a second
blunt dissector release adhesions to carefully separate the cap. I do this with
confidence knowing I wouldn’t tear or macerate the flap and clear it for the final
laser ablation.
